Bank Holiday in York by fishers

Bank Holiday in York

York's tourist season is in full swing, and the city centre is very busy with visitors here to see all the many attractions.

The Spring Bank Holiday is awash, but here are some hardy souls armed with umbrella's and water-proof clothing, indulging in that well known British past time, queueing!

They are all patiently waiting to enter the Jorvik Centre in York. The centre is in Coppergate and time travels back to Viking York, complete with a reconstruction of how York might have looked and smelt in Viking times.

Like good boy scouts the centre is prepared for the weather and hands out umbrellas to those queueing.

A super candid capturing the true British weather and spirit.

Fun shot, Katharine. I was just thinking how lucky you were to find a group with matching umbrellas! I've always been impressed by the Brits' ability to queue.

Great capture of patient waiting in line - I was wondering why all the umbrellas were the same till I read your comments.

Oh how us British like to queue, we do it very well and in an orderly fashion. Hope the attraction was worth the wet wait.

I guess you're accustomed to the English weather as I see, people come prepared and umbrella hand outs are so welcome. all a part of an English spring.

@monkeykid Thanks. I think it is good practice to keep those queueing dry. Katharine

@pyrrhula Thanks Ferry. The queue was very orderly. Unfortunately no one was entertaining them although several of the centres staff were chatting to those waiting. . I just fav the pictures I really really like. Katharine

@dolphin Thanks. I think the umbrellas are a useful piece of publicity and makes a good impression on our visitors. Katharine

@lhart Thanks Lynn. The attraction is worth a visit, you travel in" time cars" and have a commentary round Viking York complete with life size models, sound and smell effects.,
There is then an opportunity to see some of the archaeological finds
from the Viking era. Katharine

@tonydebont Thank you. It was one of a number of orderly queues that day. Katharine

@pjr Thanks. I thought it typical of the sights around York that day. Katharine

@stevepam Thanks. We are being promised a wet June so there will probably be more wet weather photography. Katharine

@vignouse Thanks Richard. I did feel sorry for those waiting although most would wait less than 20 mins. The queue is often so long that there is over an hours wait. Katharine

@bruni Too true Bruni, a typical spring. We never go on a day trip without a full set of waterproofs! Katharine
May 28th, 2014
@hshdebbie Thanks Debbie. I have a feeling they have to hand those over at the entrance but they are nice and big for customers to use. Katharine
