The yellow theme for the Tour de France was popular here in Yorkshire and there were several fun items displayed to show solidarity with the theme and tour.
I think this has to be my favourite of the 'alternatives to a yellow bike' decorations. It was placed outside Wandesford House near Bootham Bar, close to the city centre, and at the side of the route the cyclists took as they left York. This almshouse for elderly Christian women was set up by Mary Wandesford in 1783, and it's residents obviously have a sense of humour!
I paid a flying (literally!) visit home to North Yorkshire last week and saw all the decorations in York. It was fantastic - lots of enthusiasm. Then, back in SW France, I watched Le Grand Depart on TV.
Oh, this is so clever... thanks for sharing. Like @julieco I enjoyed watching this leg on TV in my local watering hole... the locals were well impressed with the Yorkshire scenery.
On Katharine's behalf can I thank you all for your comments and for the fav. Katharine is at her mums for a few days, because her mum is ill.
And a final thought on Le Tour - the cyclists may flash past in seconds, but the effect of Le Tour here in York has been amazing. Many individuals and groups have created artwork, grown yellow flowers and put yellow bikes (and other things!) on display, creating a fascinating colourful city centre - and Sunday morning, when the stage start was in York was fantastic. Thousands of people out lining the route, and a real feel-good party atmosphere! It may have cost £millions, but it brought huge amounts of happiness to many many people!
Nicely posed walker and nicely captured. Who says the "old people" don't have a sense of humor?
