This lovely teapot can be found in Stonegate (a busy street since Roman times), outside the smaller of the two Bettys Cafe's in York.
The downstairs is a wonderful smelling shop specialising in tea, coffee and gifts.
Upstairs is a traditional Bettys cafe with fixtures and fittings by the ‘Mouseman of Kilburn’, whose oak carvings all carry a trademark ‘signature’ mouse. Bettys Stonegate is also home to a large collection of prints, advertisements and paraphernalia, which tell the story of the tea trade.
Sorry about the incorrect date in the Exif data - the camera date changed after I changed batteries and I didn't notice until I downloaded the photos. It was actually taken this morning on my trip into the city centre.
You come up with some great photos and this is another one we had a small shop in wolverhampton queen st and it was so small but did all coffee's and tea's delightful:)
You are so taking me back in time to when I was a student at St Johns College. One summer my friends and I stayed in York and had summer jobs in York. two of them worked in Little Betty's which was sin Stonegate, this was many years ago!!!! I worked in The Wagon and Horses in Goodramgate most of which was still boarded up when I was at college.
@denisefuller Pleased it brought back good memories. We used to go here or the Betty's in Hunter and Smallpage in Goodramgate at the end of term. Katharine
(Don`t care/mention the date. I never have a look at it. Sure not at mine )
