The tour boats made a cheerful sight on a sunny morning. They are moored by Lendal Bridge and take visitors to York up and down the River Ouse with a commentary pointing out places of interest.
There is not much demand on a cold, if sunny day, to go on the river, hence the number of boats moored.
What a shame these aren't more in demand; I hope they don't dissappear as - in my opinion - there is no better way to see a city than from the river that passes through it... the same view that countless visitors will have had through the ages - and these buildings look delightful.
The river trip is worthwhile doing, its an experience. The view is better this time of year as there are no leaves on the trees. However it is bitterly cold so you need to wrap up warmly. Its usually this time of year the schools in York take children on a school trip on the river. Summer is much warmer but also very busy, and the views are not as good. It is also possible to hire one of the boats for the evening for an event including a disco. I know wedding receptions have taken place on one of the boats. Ian had a works event on one of the boats in the evening.
Thank you for your comments and favs.
