Ian and I visited Thompson Park on our trip to Burnley. The park is surrounded on three sides by an embankment holding the Leeds-Liverpool canal. This made a delightful suntrap ideal for sitting and later sauntering taking photos. I liked the way the River Brun had been incorporated into the park.
Thompson Park was opened in July 1930, and is a delight. For the horticulturalist its award-winning Italian garden, rose garden, Forest of Burnley arboretum trees and community orchard offer a real treat. A three-acre boating lake, children’s playground and paddling pool, miniature railway and 9-hole putting green are great for families and a small café is open during the summer.
