Burnley developed as a cotton spinning town, particularly after the opening of the Leeds - Liverpool canal. This is Finsey Mill, beside the canal. It is thought that it was first opened around 1820, with some new buildings in the 1860s, which were increased in height by an additional floor in 1875.
It has been disused for a number of years, although it has been bought by developers with the intention of converting the buildings to apartments.
A number of other mills in Burnley have been converted to apartments in recent years, and form an attractive feature of the town, and it would be interesting to see this mill restored.
Meanwhile, this early evening shot shows the mill basking in the sun awaiting whatever the future holds for it.
Well, I'm totally blown away - thanks to your support this shot made it to the popular page. Thank you all!
