Spire of Holy Trinity Church, Leeds by fishers

Spire of Holy Trinity Church, Leeds

Life doesn't always work out as planned - on my way to Rotherham on Thursday to look after my mum following her latest hospital appointment, I had stopped off in Leeds with the intention of walking up to the University to get some shots of the attractive buildings there. Sadly, by the time I got to Leeds there was very heavy rain, so I ended up looking round the new Trinity shopping centre.

The shopping centre's name comes from Holy Trinity Church, which is surrounded on three sides by the new development. The central area of the shopping centre is covered by a huge dome of glass, and the spire of the church is clearly visible through it. On this occasion the glass was covered by water from the heavy rain, giving a more abstract result. I liked the result, so here it is.

Holy Trinity Church was built between 1722 and 1727, at a time when the population of the city was growing rapidly. It was the third Anglican church in the city. The spire rises to 180 feet. It contains two bells, the older of which, dated 1728, is the oldest bell in Leeds. Originally, Holy Trinity was built with a wooden spire, which blew down in 1839. It was replaced with the present three-stage structure.
