This flood bank is part of a lovely walk quite close to our home, and helps to bring the story of York's floods up to date.
The existing flood defences have worked well for almost 30 years, and if the Foss Barrier had not failed last December, the effects of that flood would have been quite small.
In November, an exhibition was held showing proposals for upgrading the defences over the next five years, so Katharine and I went to have a look. One of the proposals included raising the bank in this shot by around 5 feet.
The area to the right of the bank is where properties are being defended, and to the left is where the flood water is contained. This bank has never been breached, although I have seen flood water reach to within a few inches of the top, and with the increasing height and frequency of floods, some improvement will be needed.
Happy New Year to you and Katharine and thank you for your continued support.
Thank you for your comments and photos, and a Happy New Year to you all!
