Statue to commemorate Barnsley's mining heritage

Another sculpture I found in Barnsley was this of a child, situated outside the transport interchange. The blocks around it's feet, and the column on which it stands represent the past - Barnsley was once the centre of the Yorkshire coalfield, but all those mines are now closed. The child represents looking to the future, and a new beginning for Barnsley.

@seattlite @pyrrhula @bkbinthecity Thank you for your comments and favs, they are appreciated.

Apparently close to yesterday's statue there is another sculpture in memory of those killed in the Oaks colliery disaster in 1866 when 361 miners were killed - quite a contrast to this forward looking statue, and emphasising the human cost of coal mining.
