Our Prime Minister Boris Johnson was discharged from hospital over the weekend after suffering from Covid-19, and is recuperating at his official country residence, 'Chequers'. This archive shot taken almost 5 years ago during a walk on my last visit to the area before our daughter Louise moved back to Yorkshire.
This walk was not what I had planned, but a heatwave meant that I needed to do a walk which involved a lot of woodland to keep me a little cooler.
I picked up the route of the Ridgeway long distance path near Monks Risborough and headed east, towards the monument on Coombe Hill (in the background top right of this shot), and then looping back to Little Kimble along part of the Aylesbury Ring footpath. The route passes through the grounds of Chequers, although at a considerable distance from the house.
Chequers is in origin a 16th century manor house, located near the village of Ellesborough, halfway between Princes Risborough and Wendover in Buckinghamshire. It has gone through many changes since it was built. It was gifted to the nation at the Prime Ministers official country residence by Arthur Lee in 1917.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
I should have added that on the ridge in the background there are benches in the shade of the trees which give super views over the surrounding countryside, and which are a great place to stop and relax on a hot day.
