A look back a few years at another of the annual festivals held in York, and this time it is the Jorvik Viking Festival, usually held over the February school half term, and recreating all things Viking, but sadly not in 2021 due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Events usually take place in various squares and green spaces around the city centre. Here, a few years ago, outside the castle museum, amongst a display of Viking crafts, was this wood turner.
Sorry for my absence for the last couple of days, I was not feeling at my best after my Covid-19 vaccination. It seems I am one of a small minority to suffer a little more than a sore arm afterwards. Still, It's done and it feels like a big step forward towards whatever the new normal becomes.
Super capture, he looks like he wishes he had an electric bench!!
Sorry you have felt a bit low, if it’s any consolation we too had symptoms for a couple of days. Headaches, shivers, flu like symptoms and I had stomach ache apparently another symptom. We are both ok now.
Great capture of details in this shot...I hope you are feeling better. Many have complained of feeling quite ill after their second shots but recovered within 24 to 48 hours.
Great capture Ian. Sorry to hear your vaccination left you feeling under the weather but things should be looking up going forward. I get my shot in April, hopefully without the after effects you suffered.
Great shot. It must be very exciting and interesting to attend these Viking festivals. Was the Covid jab your first one? My son, as a doctor, was a front-liner for the injections - the first jab did no effect his wellbeing at all but the effects of the second one put him down for a couple of days. I'm still waiting for my turn.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
Thank you too for your good wishes, the after effects of the vaccine seem to have cleared ok after a couple of days discomfort. Well worth it to take another big step towards the new normal. That was my first dose, second one is booked for early May. Katharine had her first jab a week before me, but she had a different vaccine and no side effects apart from a slightly sore arm.
Several of you commented on the serious expression of our Viking. Judging by the serious weapons carried by other Vikings, and the violence of their combat, perhaps this Viking had every reason to look serious!
Oh dear, I hope you have recovered from the Covid-19 vaccination.
wonderful to see the old trades are still used. Must be fascinating to view. Thanks for sharing
Interesting shot and description
I love the foot driven lathe and would love to see it in action.
(ps- hope you feel better soon)

Thank you Nina, it was only a couple of days that the vaccine affected me, and it feels so much better to have had it done!
