Still in the Homestead Park, York, and after my look at the Alice in Wonderland characters I had a look at some of the new plants beginning to come to life. I spotted this bud that I thought looked attractive, and that I didn't recognise.
The website that I use to check the identity of plants that I don't recognise suggests that there is a 45.36% chance that it is an Oriental Poppy, but having looked at other photos of Oriental Poppies I'm not convinced. If any of you recognise it, I would be interested to hear what you think it is.
Sorry for the late post today, but I've just been talking on the phone to my brother who has been looking after our mum in recent days after her health has deteriorated quite sharply.
Sorry to hear about your mum, I hope she is ok? I'm afraid I have no idea on the plant. I have just started using the "Pl@ntnet" app, and this seems to work well. It's available free on the Play Store
Thank you for asking about my mum. Basically she is suffering from old age (96) and a whole string of ailments that she has, so it looks like a sudden drop in her capabilities. I hope to see her in a few days for the first time since last summer, now the local train service to her station has been restored.
What a beautiful bud, it does look like a poppy. Sorry to hear about your Mum, It must be difficult when you haven't been able to see her because of Covid. Hope you have a lovely visit soon.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated. Thank you to Margaret ( @craftymeg ) who confirmed that it is indeed an Oriental Poppy. I hope to get another shot when it flowers.
Thank you too to all those of you who asked about my mum. Her basic problem is that she is 96 years old, and has various health problems, and her health seems to have deteriorated quite sharply recently. I'm really looking forward to seeing her quite soon.

I hope you have a great visit with your mom. It’s so hard to watch people we love have deteriorating health.

I was quite a distance from it, and taking advantage of my zoom lens, so I was quite safe!

Weather changes don't help them. I hope your mom will recover soon.
Thank you Vesna. I got to visit my mum at the weekend. She is 96 years old and has various health problems, but she was in good spirits.
