Taken yesterday during a walk around Rawcliffe Lake, Clifton Moor, York, and the shortest and closest of our regular walks.
I think this is a black headed gull, despite the lack of a black head, which appears only in summer. There seem to be many more gulls in the area in recent years, and they make an attractive addition to what can be seen on our lake.
I'm sure that I wouldn't want to paddle in the lake this time of year, it is far too cold, despite the relatively mild temperatures for the time of year.
Beautifully captured. It was a bit warmer today so probably not too bad for the ducks! I did have a paddle at the beach at Alnmouth - it's a must for me when I go to the beach.
Beautiful well-focused capture. Salini bird sanctuary has thousands of gulls at this time of the year. In Summer they're all gone because the weather is much better for them to get their feed.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
I walked past part of the lake again this afternoon and there were huge numbers of gulls - far more than when I was there to take this photo.

Judith, you are far braver than I am - I am reluctant to paddle even in the summer!

Thank you Denise. It is fascinating to watch the behaviour of the birds on the lake.
