Bird Sculpture by fishers

Bird Sculpture

Another weekend, so another Moorsbus outing, and today we were attempting to avoid the rain. We started with a ride over Blakey Ridge to Danby in Eskdale where there is a national park centre. In the centre there is a gallery and at the moment there is a photography exhibition, featuring the pictures of Jo Cornish and Simon Baxter under the title of 'A Woodland Sanctuary'. I've always loved the landscape work of Jo Cornish, and this was an excellent display of work on a woodland theme - probably one of the best exhibitions I've ever seen in this gallery. A new book has been published which includes copies of all the work on display, and a few extra photos as well, so we gave way to temptation and bought a copy.

Inspired by the woodland scenes, we went into Crow Wood, just across the road from the centre where there are all kinds of activities aimed primarily at children, but which adults find great fun as well. I spotted this rather attractive wood carving of a bird, and I thought you might enjoy it.

Once again, as it's a Moorsbus day I am posting rather later than normal. Hopefully you are getting used to that!

Beautiful sculpture and close up capture of it. Once I decided to interest myself in wood sculpture, bought a set of carving tools but never started.

He is gorgeous. We have a set of bookends carved by the "Mouse Man" near the Kilburn White Horse. Still treasure them

Thank you all for your lovely comments, they are very much appreciated.

More about this bird and it's location in my next post. There are quite a lot of wood carving sculptures around the site, and they make interesting landscape features.

@ninaganci

Thank you Nina. It is somehow so easy to get behind but so much harder to catch up - I have to be really strict with myself to try and post regularly!
