Rawcliffe Lake in York has a number of small artificial islands which have played a significant role in attracting different birds to the area. This shot shows two of the lake users that I saw on Friday during my walk back from the dentist.
On the left, a grey heron, and on the right a cormorant, both looking in the same direction. I'm not sure what caught their attention, but a few moments after I took the shot, the cormorant took to the air, leaving the grey heron in isolation on the island.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
I was very fortunate to be in the right place at the right time to see these two together - and my policy of always carrying a camera with me paid off as well.
Great that artificial islands are build to attract birds
Nice shot

Thank you Paul. It seems that there are currently three grey herons at Rawcliffe Lake.
