sip from the wine of youth again

A couple of weeks ago we had friends come to stay and, as we sat around getting slowly drunk, got to talking about the retro furniture that we all have. It was at this point in the evening that our friends foolishly revealed that they have 2 1960's cabinet stereos in their shed, both still running. I pick one of these up on Tuesday this week for the princely sum of 1 bottle of wine. Once it's in residence we will be "retro-fitting" so that it will not only play vinyl but be capable of picking up FM and playing MP3's, all while remaining authentic on the exterior.
They will sing again.
Sounds like a fun night with your friend

@joemuli There's a lot to be said for vinyl - quietly looking forward to dusting them all off again!
@shylaine3304 It usually is ;)

Unfortunately I sold all my vinyl (for a pittance) about ten years ago. Sigh.

@graemestevens Guilty as charged.

Sadly I had the box of my vinyls go missing during a move. Naturally the moving company said that they weren't responsible!

Aaah Ultravox, group and vinyl brings back memories! I have no idea where my vinyl went - it got lost when I left South Africa to go to Europe :(

Wonderful design

Excellent project. I disposed of all of my vinyls that I was able to replace with CD versions but I still have about 50 in the loft... and an excellent Thorens turn-table and sound arm. (BtW - the only problem with the "wine of youth" is that it was usually chosen on the basis of quantity for a given price rather than quality!)

Ultravox was not during my youth that's for sure! Nicely shot. Look forward to seeing the 1960s stereo. My vinyl collection is like a thin archeological record of my life! Much of it was played on a tinny gramophone in an area rich in Kalahari wind blown sand.... makes for really scratchy listening these days.

That sounds so cool!

Cool shot and an excellent idea! I just got my daughter 2 vinyls for her birthday - at her request. They are beautiful things. Enjoy your restoration project! :)

Kas
Brilliant idea. My vinyls are currently in a carrier bag under the stairs.

@wag864 Outrageous! ;)
@juliedduncan Thank you and yes, while challenging I'm sure we can do it...I hope ;)
@888rachel I can't wait to get my hands on it!
@yrhenwr As soon as I have it home I'll post a shot...well, after I've played with it for a while anyway...
@vignouse There is that, and the wine of youth has a lot to answer for!
@mastermek Thank you :)
@deborah63 Some to be avoided...
@dibzgreasley I sold all mine prior to moving to the UK, thinking I'd never need it again. Now I have the joy of "restocking"
@yaorenliu Let's just hope that they all get on well together ;)
@salza They always say that...

What a great project! Cleaning out a large storage area in our house today, I came across our record cleaning kit. Can't remember the last time we would have used them.

Excellent!

@linnypinny Thank you very much :)
@taffy You've just reminded me of something else I need to buy ;)
August 28th, 2016
WONDERFUL, in my loft I still have all my old vinyl's, from Beatles to 50 guitars of Tommy Garrett...Fav

@tonygig I sold all mine before moving to the UK...and now I have the pleasure of restocking :)

And, so, the end is nigh

Hallelujah for old school. Hope you enjoy - miss the pops and crackles of vinyl.

What a great thing to have. We have dozens of LPs but no longer have a turntable xx
August 30th, 2016
@psychographer I can't wait to get it up and running!
August 31st, 2016
@joysabin I'm looking forward to getting it working...
@kevin365 It can't be far away...I'm getting tired of waiting ;)

Sounds like an excellent plan to me. I keep getting tempted to craft a pair of 1950s style fretwork speaker cabinets to replace th pasticy black and silver ones that currently house my speakers.
August 31st, 2016
@swillinbillyflynn I love the fretwork ones, anything is better than mass produced plastic!
