still. life.

BoB I should think.
The garlic is a wonderful touch and the cobwebs make me feel right at home:)

You've just sent me down various rabbit holes reading about still life paintings - called nature morte in French - meaning dead nature, and their rich symbolism. This kind of still life with the skulls and commentary on death are vanitas paintings and there are examples from the Egyptians and Romans on. So there you go, tapping into a rich tradition of nature morte and vanitas.

Impressive research @shannejw . I was merely thinking what a fine set of lifeless stills.

@helenhall rabbit holes - I went to see what was nagging at the back of my mind and if it was really memento mori

Might I object slightly to the title…?
There’s no ‘life’ here…
Oh, wait, I forgot about the spiders...

@rjb71 It turns out that they're not that reliable... ;)
@fbailey I just felt it needed some garlic. As for the cobwebs, it's a constant problem here as well ;))

While you're busy putting together this wonderful still.life, your wife is ......? Or has she just given up at this point?
April 8th, 2019
Emphasis on the 'still' I suspect over the 'life.'

@taffy Most definitely ;)
@365karly1 She's very understanding...she stands beside me in everything, behind me on some things and most definitely in front of me on occasion ;)
