Ben, deep in concentration as he tries to master the train set that Grandpa bought him and Sam for Christmas. This was the first time that we had got it out and it proved a challenge to someone who had never played with one before.
When I was a lad I had a train set. It was analogue. It had one engine and one controller. If you put a second engine on the line then they both went round in circles. If you turned the dial it passed more power to the track and they both went faster! These days they are digital. The controller provided switches between engine one and engine two (and up to 8 more before adding another controller). It has switches for accessing other features like train lights and sounds.
Chaos naturally ensued as Ben battled to remember which train he was controlling, and which way the points were set in the fractions of a second before the inevitable collisions occurred. Many collisions and derailments later and he is becoming well practiced at getting them back on track, and at the very least we have mastered the 'All Stop' button.
Oh, he is also sporting his shiny new glasses that we picked up from the opticians this morning. This is the best condition that they will ever be again.
