Sagrada Família by harveyzone

Sagrada Família

We got up at 5am today so that we could get on the motorway and get a flight out to Barcelona. Jan had surprised me with the trip, today being our 20th wedding anniversary, even to the extent of booking two days off work for me without me knowing. By 1pm we had checked into our hotel and were wandering around the city.

Our hotel was only a block away from probably Barcelona's most famous landmark - Antoni Gaudi's Sagrada Família church. It really is spectacular. We emerged from the underground and turned to see the corner of this building towering over us. We would pass this spectacle several times every day over the next few days.

They started building it 132 years ago and there is still a lot to do, but it will never be a Gaudi had originally planned, as the colours will not be as vibrant.

We dined at a local restaurant to mark our 20th wedding anniversary and then wandered around the area after nightfall to get, amongst others, this shot of the east facing Nativity Façade.
Amazing shot! I was in Barcelona around this time of year two years ago, but I keep saying I'll go back to spend more time looking at this amazing landmark! I love the reflection in your pic - Lucy
