Obscuring the wall

I used these weeds and grasses growing where there should be a busy and vibrant community in the heart of Bethlehem, to half obscure the separation wall. But what once was a big grand hotel nearby is now deserted - hardly surprising as it enjoys the sounds of gun fire and rubber bullets and the atmosphere is filled with tear gas on a regular basis.

Here in Bethlehem, this part of wall has been turned into a museum, with everyday stories of life under occupation posted all around. There is a sombre and quiet atmosphere as those who have made it to the West Bank read and absorb and wonder, why?.
The softness of the plants and grasses contrast so well with the harsh wall. It's a shame we're not more like plants and grow together.

Fantastic narrative Helen. And a really poignant image. I saw an advert on tv last night for vacationing in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Felt surreal.

There are so many layers in this image, both seen and unseen. Your narrative makes it more powerful.

@flowerfairyann as ever there are plenty of lessons to be learned through nature. Thank you Ann
@kwind thanks Kim.
@nicolecampbell thank you Nicole - most of the unusable patches of land near the wall are used as dumping grounds, but here, the fresh spring grasses were dominant. So yes, an unusual calmness prevailed
@pdulis cheers
@taffy in my view, the green wins and has its healing properties
@onewing well yes - too many such scenes in Palestine but this one has some gentleness about it
@ivan I guess the spring is the most optimistic time of year to visit
@wag864 thanks kas. I'm jest telling it as I saw it. Others will say differently.

@evalieutionspics thank you. You are right to see all the layers including the ones that aren't so evident.
