Fingal's Cave Entrance by helenhall

Fingal's Cave Entrance

I was asked yesterday about the scale of the various geological elements on the island of Staffa. This is a view looking back from part way inside Fingal's Cave. Officially the cave was closed, due to some recent storm damage, but a few of us judged for ourselves how much we felt safe and made it to this point!

Our boat, before dropping us off on the island, took us a little way beyond the entrance of the cave which you see here. We were full, with around 40 people on board. I hope that gives an idea of the size.
What incredible rock formations.

We just spent yesterday afternoon in tour through a mine which had a few formations that looked a little like this. Very cool!

Well worth ignoring the Health and Safety warnings and making your own risk assessment. Built crystal by crystal by natural processes... or was it by Mendelssohn? :-)
