March of the flamingos by helenhall

March of the flamingos

Time I got back to posting - although I am still not finding the opportunity to use my mended camera. Such a mad busy time at the moment.

The journey to Swakopmund included a lunch stop at Walvis bay. I can't think of a more unpleasant place to eat lunch as there was a strong breeze blowing sand straight into our faces as we took in the sight of the flamingos and tried in vein to get well composed photographs. This is, I think where my camera sustained the damage. Lunch was abandoned as grit sandwiches are not pleasant.
Sounds like a rough spot- probably pleasant enough on non-windy days. Even the flamingos look like they're uncomfortable!

At Walvis Bay I was also on my trip through Namibia, at this point. Thousands of flamingos had gathered there. I too remember the strong wind. I also made video recordings - I had to hold my tripod, the wind would have blown it otherwise. The thought is nice that we touched the same spot with our feet.
