...never boils isn't true here, we didn't have to wait long to see this pot of mud boiling or the nearby pile of stones steaming like a kettle.
This striking geothermal field at Námaskard is full of mud pots, steam vents, sulphur deposits and boiling springs. An really unusual landscape (with an overwhelming smell!)
We went here on our tour of northern Iceland from Akureyri where we docked this morning. The town was shrouded in mist but by the time we drove over the first mountain, the skies had cleared and the amazing landscape was revealed.
First stop was Godafoss - Waterfall of the Gods – a beautiful crescent of cascading water.
Then on to Lake Mývatn which is surrounded by craters which were formed during volcanic eruptions. The lake was full of ducks, whooper swans and swarms of midges!
Dimmuborgir, or Dark Fortress, was the next stop, a lava landscape with pillars, arches and a lava labyrinth. Another incredible landscape.
