We went on a boat trip today to a small island where the puffins come to nest, it was such a surprise as we weren't expecting to see so many of them this early in April.
They're just starting to come back to land now, some were touching beaks to renew their bond and others were gathering nesting materials to take into the burrows. It was very busy, fascinating to see and wonderful to be so close to them!
A dream come true to photograph them — and such a great image on top of just getting to see them! @jyokota and I have this close to the top of our bucket list. Thanks for highlighting it, Junko.
@rosiekind thanks Rosie, we took a boat trip from the Isle of Mull to the Treshnish Isles, I hadn't been here before but it's a really great location to see the puffins.
Looking at your EXIF data now after seeing the other photo. Were you using both cameras -- the Z6 with the kit lens and the 850 with a long lens? Both seem quite useful for you on this trip!
@taffy yes, took both cameras on this trip to avoid changing lenses, I can manage both when I'm out and about with my rucksack. Although they weren't in the rucksack much of the time I needed to be able to put them away when getting on and off the boat. There was some optional walking on the islands so it was useful to have both cameras ready for close-up or wider shots. The 300mm lens was too close for some the puffins actually :) but it's a great lens with the D850 and I'm pleased with the close-up shots I got. This is the first time I'd been away with this combination of kit so wasn't sure how it would work but it was really good to have this flexibility.
