I like the leading lines, taking us to the boy. Is that water on the bottom?

Thank you so much for commenting on my photo of our grandson exploring San Lorenzo Canyon, about 2 hours south of where we live in Albuquerque. Once you follow the canyon to the end, there is a small opening in the rock. If you crawl through it, it takes you to a room with a waterfall in it. We visited here with our daughter's family this past weekend, and she also posted some photos of it. @laurielizard

He looks to be in awe of the place. Nice shot Jane

BTW, you may remember about 12 or so months ago, we were planning on driving from LA to Washington State and I asked you about which was the best canyon to make a detour to have a quick look at. Well we ended up flying to Vancouver so the drive never eventuated.

However, we are going to be visiting our son who is now in Chicago and as part of our time over there, we are cheating and taking an 11 day tour out of Las Vegas that takes in all of the headline canyons in the region (Bryce Canyon, Zion, Canyonlands NP, Grand Canyon, Lake Powell etc. Really looking forward to it.

@terryliv What a wonderful trip, Terry! When will it happen? These places look close on the map, but they are really spread out. Monument Valley is amongst them too. Antelope Canyon is in Page, Arizona, and it is administered by the Navajo tribe--very fun and a photographer's paradise. Canyonlands has three parts, all spread out. Our son is a ranger at Canyonlands Island in the Sky which is outside the charming town of Moab, Utah. Also near Moab is the entrance to Canyonlands Needles and also Arches. Let me know if you go to Island in the Sky and I'll let him know.

@harbie This is San Lorenzo Canyon where you visited last year!

@janeandcharlie I forgot about Monument Valley when I wrote the note above but yes, we visit it also. Just had another look at our itinerary and we have two nights in Moab. Our second day there has a visit to Arches NP and then it says "On to magnificent CANYONLANDS NATIONAL PARK and DEAD HORSE POINT STATE PARK." So we are not far from Island in the Sky but I have no idea if we go there. Does your son's range extend to Dead Horse?
When we leave Moab we go to Bryce.

@terryliv Is this a tour? After Arches, you get on a nearby highway to Dead Horse. It doesn't take long to look at Dead Horse. Then Island in the Sky Canyonlands is about 5 miles further on the highway, so you will definitely be going to where our son works. The view from the visitors center is like the Grand Canyon without the crowds (the crowds will be at Arches). A popular thing to do at ISKY is to go there at sunrise to see the rock glow at Mesa Arch (you can see this on the Internet). Also ISKY was at one time designated the best place in the country to see the night sky stars. It doesn't take a long time to see ISKY. If you're not with a tour group, I will tell you about the $10 lifetime pass for seniors at any national park, but it's going up to $80 at the end of August. You just need one per car. Also, the Moab area has aerial tours, which I know you often try to do. When will you be there?

@janeandcharlie Yes Jane. Unfortunately it's a tour. As I said we cheated this time. I started trying to organise it ourselves and quickly discovered we were going to have accommodation problems as well as the fact we didn't know what parts would be the best to visit. So we took the chicken way out and just booked ourselves onto a tour. Yes we will miss out on some of the more intimate places but at least we will get to see the big ticket items. And we don't have to worry about organising anything.
After we finish the tour in Vegas, we are hiring a car and driving to Denver and then flying from Denver to Chicago
