This is the headframe in the old mining town of Kelly, New Mexico. It is 120 feet tall and was built in 1906 when Kelly's population was 3,000. It sits above the shaft which goes down 1,000 feet to a 30-mile maze of tunnels. It was designed by Gustave Eiffel of Eiffel Tower fame. So, now Kelly, population 2, has its own Eiffel Tower!
Thanks so much for your comments about my photo of Kelly, New Mexico's, Eiffel Tower. These were sold as kits to mining companies.
