When going for walks, Silver the 'bear alert' dog comes with us, as do staff with guns. Guns are loaded with various things: firecrackers, rubber bullets, real bullets. Real bullets have never been used. Silver had survived a polar bear encounter in Nov, but died in his sleep in Jan.

This is a gorgeous pic from the sun to the silhouette to the pinkish hues on the snow. Very nice.
