November 2016-2

A slight diversion from the Yarpole Loop took us up on to the Iron Age hill fort at Croft Ambrey. This hill fort is the oldest of the thirty such forts in Herefordshire and was occupied from about 3000 years ago.

There is an almost 360 degree view from the top. The photo shows one of the Clee Hills to the east. Big landscapes are tricky to photograph, but there were terrific views to the Malvern Hills, the Sugar Loaf at Abergavenny, westwards to the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons, and north to the Shropshire Hills.

My husband showed his age by getting excited about seeing Hergest Ridge...you have to have been a Mike Oldfield fan to understand this.
