November 2016-24

The Old Man's Beard (Clematis vitalba) hangs on into the new year when everything else has died back. It was said to do the Devil's work by climbing into other plants and choking them.
I don't know why it was also called "Travellers' Joy", but it was sufficiently attractive to stop me on our walk around Old Alresford.
Isn't it a harbinger of a deep, long, hard winter? Like the composition here, J

Great shot of the old man's beard and interesting folklore.

I've seen lots of this today. I had no idea that was the folklore.
