You can just glimpse a sacred platform or ahu through the palms, with statues or moai placed on top facing the former village of Anakena. The trees were brought over from Tahiti in about 50 years ago.
This is the only sandy beach on Easter Island, but fortunately there was no sign of the advertised Portuguese Man of War jellyfish.
