February 2017-17

My last moai photo, this time in the British Museum. Hoa Hakananai'a was removed, in the 19thC with the full co-operation of the Easter Islanders, to a British ship as a present for Queen Victoria. Well it beats a box of chocs!
He's in a better condition than the ones on Easter Island because he is the only one known that is carved from hard basalt rock. When we visited the village of Orongo, where he was carved and erected, there were plenty of notices reminding visitors that he is still far from home!
That's a sad narrative in some ways. Think I'd rather have flowers?
