Just Ducky

As I've said in prior posts, one of my "safety shot" locations is a small park off Veteran's Parkway just before the Washington Bridge. I needed that location today. My original plan was to try for a photo of the remains of the Old Grist Mill in Seekonk which was destroyed by fire yesterday morning. Two things prevented that shot. First, the parking area was completely sealed off so there was no place to stop for a shot. Second, we were in the middle of a biblical sized rainstorm and - thanks to nice blue skies when I left for work in the morning - I was not dressed for a deluge. Fortunately, the rain cleared by the time I left work and this shot was accessible. What caught my attention was the large flock of mallards in front of one of the slips. They are not normally in this location. The biggest challenge for me was keeping the overall scene in the shot rather than zooming in on the ducks. Restraint, it turned out, made for the better shot since the ducks are now seen in broader perspective. It's progress, at least!

Post processing was a simple black and white conversion. I applied a photo pop filter in Topaz Adjust. Back in PSE I did the conversion with a gradient map in color blend mode. Levels were adjusted slightly, and a sepia filter was added as the top layer.
Wow - this is an incredible photo! It needs more views. Fav for sure!

@victorypuzzle Thanks for the Fav, Dominique! I'm finding the black and white shots aren't getting the attention the color shots do, but to be honest, I'm really enjoying the black and white transformation.
