The Last New Dealer

All I had in mind for today's photo was to head to Newport and shoot some street scenes. Newport tends to be extremely crowded on weekends, so I thought a Tuesday morning would be a more realistic time to deal with the City By the Sea. As luck would have it, I no sooner parked and started to walk down Thames Street when I spotted this old gem. The car itself was an amazing subject. It was worn, pitted, rusted, and parked in a spot with fantastic lighting. Then I noticed the front bumper sticker and the entire scene fell into place. Here's the perfect image of a New Dealer, straight out of the Great Depression. Frugal enough to keep a car 70 years past its prime yet sensible enough to keep it in good working order. There is tremendous irony in spotting a car like this in Newport, a city noted for excessive wealth and opulence, characterized by turn-of-the-century mansions and home to the most prestigious of yachting associations. Roosevelt would have been proud, indeed.

Post processing was primarily conducted in Topaz Adjust. I applied a detail light filter and then adjusted the lighting, saturation, and details before returning to PSE. A very slight levels adjustment was added, and to tone down the color of the building in the background I applied a cyan photo filter just to that section of the photo.
Beautiful old car!
