Weather Off Conimicut

The rain started to gain intensity as I approached the Longmeadow Fishing Area in Warwick. I had never been there, so wasn't sure what to expect for photo opportunities. The rain was intermittent, which made for very dynamic composition possibilities. The lighthouse in the distance - the Conimicut Light, guarding the entrance to the Providence River - is what drew my attention. Rumstick Point is visible to the left as a dense line of fog approaches from just behind the lighthouse. It's the type weather for which lighthouses are made. I opted for a black and white presentation to dramatize the impact of the weather.

Post processing started with a detail light filter in Topaz Adjust. I then adjusted adaptive exposure, contrast, protect highlights, and adaptive saturation. Back in PSE, I added a black and white gradient filter in color blend mode. I then adjusted levels, and added a bit of a blue hue beneath the gradient filter to improve contrast. A sepia photo filter is the top layer.
