Red Breasted Mergansers by kannafoot

Red Breasted Mergansers

These three male Red Breasted Mergansers in their breeding plumage were swimming near the docks at the Warren Town Wharf this morning. This species spends its summers in the extreme northern US and into Canada, but it winters further south along the east and west coasts of the US. It is one of the migratory species that winters in Rhode Island. There was at least one female with this trio, however I didn't see the other two females that would normally also be present.

Post processing was all in PSE and started with an extremely tight non-standard sized crop to enlarge the ducks. I then applied a levels adjustment and a warming filter (to tone down the overly deep blues in the water).
There are mergansers where I live (southwestern VA)... they are beautiful! Nicely captured.. love the deep blue of the water too!
