On History's Doorstep

I went downcity for some street photography today, and found this wonderful seen in front of the First Baptist Church in America. While a couple of visitors are reading the historical marker attached to the church, others are either passing by without a glance or just sitting on the steps waiting for a bus. Surprisingly, the vast majority of Rhode Islanders are unaware of the historical implications of this location. It was on this very spot that the concept of religious freedom in the US was born. Many of the concepts we take for granted in the Constitution were derived from the "lively experiment" implemented by Roger Williams in this small patch of land purchased from the Narragansett Indians between 1635 and 1636.

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, boost black, boost white, and contrast. A levels adjustment and sepia photo filter were added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-qt7BQQV/0/XL/2013%2008%2002_0017%20copy-XL.jpg
This is lovely. I like the contrasts between the old church and a sort of oblivious modern life.
