February readings

Hold On to Your Kids by Gordon Neufeld and Gabor Mate - psychology / sociology; although a bit repetitive, a book that caused a lot of introspection. It took me about 2 months to finish reading this one. It's not necessarily a parenting book.
The Aviator by Evgheni Vodolazkin - fiction; it wasn't only the Nazis.

Disclaimer: I try not to get overexcited when I present the books, as my cup of tea might not be somebody else's. My rule is, however, if it is not my cup of tea, I don't read it.
They both look quite interesting.

Your not selling the first book! Was it any good?

@christinav :D I was not really trying to sell it, but rather to state some objective facts.
It is not an easy read because of the rich content. (It is also not very easy to read physically, as it uses quite a small font and the pages are crammed from top to bottom). Also, some ideas are repeated quite a lot, and some people find that annoying. If one is familiar with the concepts in it (such as the attachment theory), maybe the book does not bring anything new. I was not aware of that concept and it was novel to me. The perspective explaining some social circumstances is quite intriguing and plausible, depending on every reader's background and beliefs. It spoke to me and it confirmed some of my own beliefs, so I might say it is a good book. Nonetheless, it is a book that is worth reading. My reading it throughout 2 months should not be discouraging: if it were a bad read, I would have abandoned it, not drag it over such a long time. For me it was a challenging book, in the good sense. It made me think a lot about myself, about my relationships, about my approach to relationships, about society in general too.

Both sound interesting but not sure that they are going to be added to my reading list.

They both look like interesting books to read.

Good rule. I have the same one. Although, sometimes you don't find out it isn't your cup of tea until you've already wasted some time.

@cdcook48 Yes, of course. And sometimes you tend to give it one more chance... until th next chapter or round number of pages... Of course I meant that I don't finish it, if I find a book not satisfying.

And sometimes you will read a book until the end because you keep hoping it will get better, and then it doesn't and you realize that is X hours of your life you will never get back. Then you read a really, really good book and your faith is restored.
