In a desert field not far from where I live, I recently noticed a little plant full of small periwinkle blue flowers growing wild amongst the scrub brush. I tried on multiple occasions to photograph it, but was foiled each time. Often the wind was blowing too much rendering the little blooms out of focus. Or, I didn't visit at the right time of day. I learned the blooms were bright and open in the morning, but rather droopy by afternoon. I was ready to give up but decided to give it one more try. Finally, on my fifth photo shoot, the conditions and my timing were on, the flowers cooperated and happily some decent shots were captured!
Since it's BWW (Black White Wednesday) for me, I decided to transform the periwinkle blue into BW. I added a touch of cross processing and liked the effect. So, here for your viewing pleasure is my hard won photo of a little flax flower. :)
I agree your patience paid off, despite the odds! It feels as though it has been windy non stop here since I started this project and I've spent a lot of trying to shoot between gusts, which can be frustrating!! Great processing here it looks good in b&w, more forlorn somehow!
That's lovely - perfect cross-process blance with b&w - am big fan of cross-proscessing altho no idea what it means - wonderful erect little flower and dreamy background lisa - fav!
Fav. One thing to consider on the windy days is the AI Servo setting (nikon calls it something else) so it can help you track the subject. I did it with a flower up close in the wind for the camera settings challenge. Just a thought. And I'm in awe I can suggest it! :)
awww perfect lisa. it helps to know how hard sometimes it is to get something right, but i admire you for hanging in there and not surrendering to a not-so-perfect shot. great tenacity...i wish i had more of it, but i lose patience and move on instead!
Beautifully simple and solitary. The b&w enhances that. I, too, know that feeling of getting the shot you have in your mind. It is difficult to move on until you get it. :-). Funny breed, we
This is beautiful in its fragility - love your composition and lighting. It suits B&W very well. Would love to see the colour version too. I admire your persistence - wind is so often a total pest, but totally worth it in the end!
For some reason this reminds me of that 1960's coke commercial 'I'd like to teach the world to sing...'. I know, cheesey and dated. Oh well, that's me.
Simple, yet stunning, Lisa. I also love your writing style and descriptions. Congratulations on making it on the TT, by the way! I'm a late arrival, as you can see. :)
Heartfelt thanks to you all for your kind messages! I really appreciate your support!
