Ancient Roots by rosiekerr

Ancient Roots

This is another view of yesterday's shot, "Ancient Maple," a very old Japanese Maple tree growing in the Missouri Botanical Garden.

I received some editing suggestions, encouraging me to crop and focus on the trunk and roots, which really speak volumes. I obliged. :) This was kind of a fussy edit, too. Feel free to skip on down, as it may feel repetitious.

Thanks for stopping by. I always appreciate it.
@jgpittenger @taffy I took another whack at it, to incorporate your good suggestions. Thanks for thinking critically about this very cool tree!

I love this! I think you've made something quite magical with this shot. This really brings out the roots and twisted base -- a different image totally from the original. Both very strong, but I admit to preferring this one. And the color is effective too -- did you desaturate a little? Whatever you did, I like the tones.

Beautiful in color. Love the background color too...lovely! Fav.

@taffy I did desaturate the greens a bit... in real life, the greens were not that strong, so I tried to bring them back to reality. I put a bw version on Flickr, too, for comparison. There were a ton of lighting variations in the shot, which made editing more complex. Thanks for the push!

@rosiekerr You should put your link to your Flickr one here, so folks can check it out. I'm off to find it.

Fabulous tree, must be eons old, looks like a giant bonsai if you'll pardon the inherent contradiction.
