Tonight I will be glued to BBC1 watching BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012.
For the benefit of those not in the UK, it is an annual celebration of British Sport where many awards are given out, and at the end of the evening, one person is crowned Sports Personality of the Year. With such a great year of sport for our nation, it is impossible to call who will win it, but what a shortlist.
Mo Farah, Sir Chris Hoy, Ben Ainslie, Kath Grainger, Sarah Storey, Bradley Wiggins, Jessicca Ennis, Andy Murray, Rory McIlroy, Ellie Simmonds and David Weir have all been nominated, but Wiggo is the clear favourite with the bookies. He gets my vote too.
This bottle, which has been coming up to room temperature and breathing all afternoon, will keep me fine company!!
Cool shot. And I guess you understand wine? When I was much younger all we could afford was a cheap bottle of Boone's Farm Apple Wine. So, my taste still seems to go towards something that tastes like KoolAid.....
@winemonologues It was a delight Fife, even without the right food accompaniment. Lovely and smooth with a velvet texture, lots of legs. Full of spicy dark fruit, a few sandalwood style note, and a long balance liquorice and Blackberry finish. I would say that it is prime drinking now and as a cru bourgeois has probably only got a few years befor ethe tannins start dropping out. If I have a criticism or would mark it down I would say it lacked a bit of body and warmth, but these are minor. I would mark it somewhere in the 88-92 range. I am currently debating my Christmas Day red with myself!! I have some 95/6/8 Pichon Longueville and Grand Puy Lacoste, a 95 Batailley, several 2000 Lynch Bages, and several vintages of Figeac from 95 to 01, amongst others!!
@tishpics That sounds a delight Pat, the Cotes de Bourg can produce some wonderful wines, along with Fronsac and the less fashionable areas of the Medoc, and often at a fraction of the price of their illustrious neighbours. How was the Ch. Rousselle?
@winemonologues I should say that I was drinking it with some French cheese, so it did very well to cope with it. I also have a real treat for Christmas Day, a bottle of 83 Doisy Daene to have with cheese in the evening. I think the Christmas Pud would overpower it, so will probably open a bottle of Vin de Paille or Tokaji with it.
