Another Place ~ 1 by seanoneill

Another Place ~ 1

There have been a few shots of this place on 365 recently.

It is at Crosby in North West England and is called Another Place. It is an installation of 100 cast iron statues of the artist, Anthony Gormley.

Originally a temporary installation when completed in 2006, and due to be moved to New York, it has met with broad appeal and is still in place.

The statues all disappear beneath the waves at high tide. We arrived just as the tide started to go out, and walked along the beach for a couple of hours enjoying them appear as we walked.

I have quite a lot of photos from that day, which will appear in my albums over the next week or so. A colour close up of one of the statues faces is in one of my other albums today.

Thanks to @jocasta for the car parking tip on the day.
Looks really cool in black and white!

I love his sculptures and these are so thought provoking - we planned visiting this weekend but had to postpone. Well captured.

Lovely atmospheric shot Sean, I have one or two that I'm pleased with from there too.
Last day of the season....you going to the Tigers? I quite fancy our chances against Wasps today :)

That must be quite something to see all 100 of them. Great composition.

Incredible! Love the concept! So elegant in its simplicity.

It is become such an iconic image in a n relatively short time - and justifiably so - it is wonderful. And this capture certainly does it justice, Sean. Fav.

Wow...this is an awesome shot and find!
May 4th, 2013
love the idea that the statues appear slowly with the tide going out - are the figures close together or in different poses ??? a fav

honestly, this (along with the story) creeps me out but I can't stop looking at it. I love the simplicity and the fact that these types of shots can only be taken when the statues are visible...which I'm sure not everyone sticks around to see- which shows your patience. Wonderful photo :)

Fabulous...I'd love to see this in real life with the varying tide levels.

How amazing..... must be fascinating to see the statues appear and disappear. He looks freakishly real, I thought at first it was some kind of naturalist! Fav. Sean

Another fine example of your B&W mastery.

I recognise these famous men & although I have never been up to them personally they are instantly recognisable .....they give me the creeps when half submerged...my nightmare being engulfed in water!! A brilliant low shot you have, it gives these statues great gravitas.

Well composed with the minimalist surroundings.

Oh excellent. Look forward to seeing your shots sean. Was over there last week at low and high tide. Work 5 mins drive from there too.

@filsie65 Well, here's the thing Phil. I have passed through your area on the train 3 times in the last week and spotted copses on hills between Wellingborough and Luton that are so photogenic, and have me searching the map and google earth for them!!

Simply stunning :)fav !

Fav! Love all your shots of this! Is it one statue? Or more than one?
May 7th, 2013
@espyetta Hi MaryBeth, it is 100 statues, all the same, of the artist Anthony Gormley. I am aiming to post 100 pictures of them in the next few months. I have about 40 or so that are viable, so will be thinking about what other shots to do and returning. Thanks for all the great comments and Favs, very much appreciated.
