Looking Back

A higgledy-piggledy pile of my diaries. I had quite an amusing hour or so today looking back at some past diary entries. I used to write a whole page every day from when I was a teenager. Now I only write a few sentences to sum up a day. It's a habit I can't break. I love the thought that I can pick a year and a date from years ago and find out exactly what I was doing. On this day in 1987 I wrote "a whole second is being officially added to 1987 because the earth is rotating slower by one thousandth of a second each day. They're going to add it so that 1988 can start bang on time..." Weren't we just so grateful for that extra second haha! I'm now engrossed in 1984!
Love your photo and narrative!

Nicely captured - One of my only regrets is that I didn't journal when I was young. Enjoy your journey back in time!

Great idea and shot for looking back. I imagine there is going to be some entertaining reading.

What a terrific snapshot of life for whatever day or year you choose. It will be very interesting to look back on this year someday and see if your thoughts about it change over time. A clever photo to illustrate the passage of time for you.

Cazzi we must be twins! I too kept diaries for years! Recently I did the same and started reading and reading. I forced myself to throw most away, it was a sad day. I’m going to start again with 2021 because you are right that it is a habit that is hard to break!

@jb030958 Every now and again I drag out the box with all my diaries in and the kids find them fascinating. It's a shame they haven't kept their own. I wonder whether to start using the computer but there's nothing quite as nice as a handwritten page. 🙂

@30pics4jackiesdiamond @linnypinny @grammyn @kvphoto thank you all. My 2021 diary is ready and waiting to be filled. I always find it strange looking at all the empty pages just wondering what will eventually be written on them.

@wakelys A lot of it was quite mundane. I wish I'd included more of the finer details.

I admire that you do this. I've tried many times to journal falling flat on a day or two into the process.

Love the photo, narrative and the fact that you have kept a diary for all those years. How great it must be to reread your thoughts from your earlier life. Like @randystreat I’ve tried writing a diary many many times but I either ended up with a diary full of appointments only or ones that had no entry after mid January 😩

What a great habit! I never managed to do a diary, but have some old letters and know it is a lot of fun to re-read them.

How fantastic to be able to do that. It must be wonderful to go through them and read what you wrote then and rediscover what was important to you at the time. Fast forwarding to 2040, I'd love to read what you wrote in 2020!!!
