The yellow leaves on this holly tree looked striking against the dark green leaves and red berries. On closer inspection the yellow leaves were actually diseased and dying. Also I was a bit surprised to see berries this time of year.
i love holly berries and the plant itself. where i used to live there was a park that has a big holly bush and it has berries all the time. i like the yellow leaf, it makes the photo rather attractive. aces!
@randystreat It has rained heavily for weeks but now the sun has returned and it's quite hot some days. Each yellow leaf had a big brown spot on it. You can see it at the bottom right of the leaf in the photo. I don't know if it is caused by an insect or not but I'm sure it was to blame for killing it.
@monikozi Holly is around all year but features more at Christmas in decorations etc. When berries appear early (but not this early) we normally expect a bad winter. As a child I was told this was so the birds had plenty of food to get them through but I'm not sure thats true lol!
