Silicon Crystals in Quartz 11.26.11

This is a quartz rock that I found in my backyard. I think the blackish-greyish spots are silicon crystals, as the chemical formula of quartz is really silicon dioxide. I'm getting interesting in collecting samples of all the elements as possible as they are what make up this world. Not much really happened except my family and I went for a walk to McDonald's to get salads to have with dinner. In addition, the weather was really nice.
Nice texture. Collecting samples of all the elements as possible sounds like a nice collection to start.

I had a friend years ago that loved collecting rocks. She had some great specimens and when she moved out of state she gave them to my son. Eventually we gave them to another family who's middle son loved rocks. So they've been well taken care of through the years. Happy collecting!
