This is our final morning at the beach. Our sunny skies of the day before were gone and the weather continues to hover around freezing. I went out for a walk in the morning and took lots of pictures of the little shore birds running around in the surf. This was the only morning of our trip that the fishing trollers were near the shore; all previous days they had been out near the horizon.
The Long Beach Peninsula bills itself as the worlds longest beach. I don't know how they determine that but it is 28 miles of uninterruped shoreline. The sand is hard enough to drive on and lots of people do this (in their big trucks well over the posted speed limit of 25 mph) which means that you need to be on guard with kids and dogs. It's a great place for kite flying and clam digging and sandcastle building. The farther north you head up the peninsula the fewer and fewer people around.
The slip of land that you can see in this south facing shot is North Head, where the light house from yesterday is. This marks the southernmost part of the peninsula. On the other side of that is the mouth of the Columbia river and beyond that the state of Oregon.
A beautiful, luminous shot. Love that seagull standing in the middle, too.
We have lots of beaches longer than 28 miles, so I don't know how they figure that either; one of ours is 90 miles of uninterrupted beach. But whatever, this looks like a beautiful place for a holiday and it's nice to get another view of where the lighthouse stands.
Like the lone bird here Shannon... Many thanks for all your wonderful comments, I'm sorry I don't get to comment as much as I should (gives self a slap).. Thought I was following so have corrected :-)

Thanks for some lovely comment on my recent shots, Shannon. Much appreciated.
