"23 Skidoo" by soboy5

"23 Skidoo"

I just returned from Manhattan - 72 hours of nonstop fun. My theme for the week will be New York City. This is the iconic Flatiron Building, framed by tree branches from nearby Madison Square Park. Completed in 1902, the Flatiron was the first skyscraper north of 14th Street and is a National Historic Landmark.

Located on 23rd Street, the unusual shape of the Flatiron causes wind to swirl around it. During the 1920s, groups of men would gather to watch women walking by have their skirts blown up, revealing bare legs, which were seldom seen publicly at that time. Local constables would tell such groups of men to leave the area, giving them the "23 Skidoo".

P.S. To all my friends on the project - I had a great time seeing my son in Manhattan and spending a three day weekend with him. I apologize for not commenting on your images for the last three days, but we were on the go in NYC from early in the morning until late at night each day and I did not bring a computer with me.
Very interesting! & such a clear photo of the building. First time I've seen it.
