The Porsche 914, while unloved by many, is one of my favorite Porsches. It was a mid engine, entry-level sports car with a VW-based 4 cylinder engine and a Porsche chassis. Sold from 1969 - 1976. I love the geometric styling of the 914 and they are a lot of fun to drive, they handle very well.
This early 914 was in excellent condition and is painted in Olympic Blue, one of Porsche's fashionable and vibrant blue paint colors of the 1970's.
You've lost me now Danny even though you have lovingly taken another one! Without that hint of roadside there I might have thought it was a toy car! For most I guess it certainly is a fantasy! I did once have a Triumph Spitfire (I doubt if it was sold in the US.) Spit fire it certainly didn't and it was like getting in and out of a shoe box!
@jdr4690 Thanks, Rob - the owner was quite proud of this one, I spoke with him for quite a while - restoring them is a labor of love. @simon0128 Thank you, Simon! @tulipgirl Thanks, Alicia - I love this color also and 914s are cool sportscars! @marieooi Thanks, Marie - I do too! @yrhenwr Thanks, David - I had a 1976 Triumph Spitfire 1500 when I was in law school - bright red with tan interior - I loved that car. They sold them in the U.S.
@myautofocuslife Thanks, Livia - I agree on all counts! @girlie Thank you, Robin! @sjodell Thanks, Sarah - the 1970's produced some cool car colors! @trude Thank you, trude - I like the reflections, too! @jgilker Thanks, Jessika - hope your weekend is fantastic!
@sanfil Thank you, Sandra. No, it is not mine - I saw it at our local car show. I like 914s and came close to buying one but got an MGB instead. I would not mind having a nice 914 one day! I am a bit partial to old British sports cars, having owned a Triumph Spitfire and a chrome bumper MGB. Plus family members have owned Austin Healeys and Jaguars. My current "toy" is a first generation Miata MX-5, the modern version of the classic British sport car - 99% of the character of the classic British sprts cars with the added bonus that it runs like a Honda and does not leak oil all over my garage floor or leave parts lying in the road like the Triumph and MG often did!
I'm with you Danny, it is iconic, even if unfashionable. Saw your comment above. I saw an Austin Healey 3000 yesterday parked outside the pub. A real thing of beauty, and I will have one. I'm targeting it as a 50th birthday present to myself in 3 years time.
I forgot about that color, Danny, and this one sure is a beauty. I haven't one on the road in years, but Oahu is a very small island. :) Thanks for the memories.
@soboy5 They sold the spitfire in the US? Well I am surprised! Mine was racing green. I became a single parent a little while after getting it and it was not the ideal car for a dad and 2 young boys!
