Janis Joplin recorded "Mercedes Benz" on October 1, 1970. It was the last track she ever recorded as she died three days later. The song appeared on the album Pearl, released in 1971.

This was the Mercedes Benz that Janis was singing about - the famous W108, the last of the hand-built S class luxury automobiles - a truly stately motorcar and a major status symbol of its time.

There will be plenty more great classic car images to share in the future (I attended a great car show yesterday).
