This is my friend and fraternity brother, Andy. He has started a new mediation/consulting business and wanted a head shot for his website. After going to a studio and not being satisfied with the results, Andy asked me if I would take his portrait. I told him I am a landscape and nature photographer and portraits are not my thing, but he was convinced I could do a better job than the studio after seeing my selfie on facebook.
So this is the result of yesterday's "shoot". Andy is very happy with it and will be using this shot for his website. I used my 35 mm prime lens for this shot.
Great portrait. I find the newer business photos are more casual than days gone by. I use my profile shot for my business photo. I can't believe you got such a great shot with the window in the back! You did a great job! What other lighting did you use? It came out very natural looking.
@danette Thank you for the lovely comments, Danette! I have never claimed to be a portrait photographer, don't have a studio, a backdrop, off camera lighting or any professional equipment or training. I've taken half a dozen portraits of friends and family that I have been pleased with. For this shot, I took it in my den and used a combination of natural sunlight coming through a side window and a window behind the camera, my two floor lamps that use cfls and my ceiling fan lamp, which has two incandescent bulbs in it.
@monkeykid Thanks for the nice comments, Therese - Andy and I are not blood related, we were in the same fraternity at college, so we are fraternity brothers!
(By the way... I can see a very strong family likeness between this shot, and your selfie!!! :) )
