Snake Handler by soboy5

Snake Handler

I ran into this fellow and his snakes in Washington Square Park as they were setting up for a food tasting festival. Luckily for his friends, snake was not on the evening's menu. Another slice of life in NYC. Looks better on the black background when enlarged.
I am guessing from the background that this man is carrying snakes around what looks like a fair ground or something like that. I would think that that wouldn't be a very good idea.

A fabulous shot!!! :)

@skipt07 I don't know about America, but here in South Africa, snakes used for shows aways have their poison glands removed! Sometimes even the whole fang is surgically removed (it doesn't harm the snake!)!

This guy probably makes his neighbors a bit uneasy. There are lots of interesting characters in NYC.

@monkeykid - We might see people holding snakes in zoos or advertised snakes shows, but not normally out in the open like this where someone could expectantly come upon a person with snakes draped on them and freak out. While we have snakes in the US they aren't normally as big as you would find in Africa. Although, you can find some pretty big ones in the southern states. I saw a video on Facebook this past week of a python eating an alligator alive and whole in Australia. There have been problems the US when people buy python and boas when they are small, and they end up growing larger than the people realized they would so they turn them loose which is really stupid. At least that is what it is like in my part of the 100 acre wood.

Great shot but I agree with Skip. I don't mind harmless garden snakes but boas and pythons.......YIKES! But I guess this dude knows what he's doing :-) He looks happy any way.
